My Story of Frugal Living - Part II

You can read Part I of this story here.

I left off in the last post at the point where I just was starting to implement the Baby Steps in The Total Money Makeover.

Here's the continuation of our story:

We(basically I) worked on our Total Money Makeover for exactly a year when Financial Peace came to our church.  The class was a huge amount of money to us. however since I never could get my husband to read the book, I figured if it was a way to get him the information, it was worth the investment.  He reluctantly went, thinking how boring a financial class was going to be.  He is a true free-spirit and wants nothing to do with the numbers or the daily grind of it.  However, Dave is so energetic that after the first session he was hooked.  He was ready to sacrifice to win.  As Dave says, "Live like no one else, so later you can live like no one else!"

We had paid all our little debts off, we were just down to our 1st and 2nd mortgage.  My husband jumped on board and wanted to get an emergency fund built up.  Now, I'm not going to lie and tell you my free-spirited husband loves a budget.  He certainly doesn't!  However, he likes where we are going and is willing to reign his spending in for our plan.  Freedom from debt, other than our house, and looking forward to our future.

I'm also not going to tell you this is easy.  It isn't, it's so incredibly hard.  But, it is so worth it!  I'm still waiting on the 2nd part of living like no one else, but we'll get there someday!  We were just recently able to get our 1st and 2nd put together on on mortgage and I've got to tell you, it feels good to be debt free except for the house!!!

If you've never heard of Dave Ramsey I'd encourage you to go check out his website and definitely get his book from the library or amazon.  It's that good!

I tell you this story not to boast at our hard work.  I hope to help someone out there who feels lost or just wants to have a plan.  God was and is truly in control of it all.  As we went through many months there were times we were sure we wouldn't have enough money to pay the bills, however God ALWAYS gave us exactly the right amount of overtime at the right time.  Even now He has given us things right when we needed it!  God is so good to us even when we mess up!
