Frugal Friday - Saving on Lunchmeat!

[frugalfriday.png]

In the deli, that approximate 2 lb. packet above could easily run you $12, even on sale.(according to the Meijer flier this week)  However, I got 7.43 lb for a total of $10.24!  That's more than 3x as much as from the deli!  What's my secret?

I buy a whole ham when it's on sale, especially around Christmas and Easter and take it to the meat department where they will slice it for me!  I then take it home and put it in ziplock freezer bags that will work better for our family and put them in the freezer until we need them!  It works great!

Don't have as large of a family as us, or your children are much smaller, so you don't need a whole ham for lunch meat?  I used to have half sliced like lunch meat and the other half cut in 1-2" slices, then I could cube it and put it in casseroles or scalloped potatoes.  That way we would go through it faster, but I could still save the money!

What a terrific tip! It freezes so well also. Do you buy a boneless one or any one?

It has to be boneless for them to be able to slice it easily.

That is a fantastic idea...and since I pack lunches on a daily basis, I welcome any penny pinching idea to help with that!!!
