Should I Tithe While Getting Out of Debt? - The Pre-show

Tuesday's Tips Button

I will give you some food for thought in these next posts, but I won't attempt to answer this question for you.  I will just be giving you my experience.

I'm Stubborn, but Finally Learning!

All my life I've balked against rules.  I don't want anyone telling me what to do.  I do a fine job of that, thank you very much!

However, the older I get, the more I realize that rules are for my good.  Having children has brought this realization to me.  Rules, such as don't pass the hedges on our driveway, are given not to assert my power, but for safety.  I have a reason and it's ALWAYS for their good!  If they disobey the rule I've given, they are often hurt in the process.  I love them deeply and don't wish to see them come to any harm.

So now that I know why I make rules, it's easy to apply this to what I know about God.  He loves us even more than we love our children!  All that He tells us in the Bible is for our good!  If I don't follow His instructions, I'm bound to get hurt.

God's Love is Freely Given!!!

I always thought of following His instructions in the Bible as a way to earn God's love.  I never would have said it that way.  I thought that I believed God loved me no matter what, but that wasn't what I was truly living.  I've realized that I can mess up and God will still love me.  Just as when my children disobey, either willfully or through negligence, I will never stop loving them.

I give all this background so you know that no matter what you choose, God will still love you and I will not judge you, nor should anyone else.

Next week, I will talk about why I believe in tithing while getting out of debt.  I hope you'll join me.

Knowing that God loves me no matter what, Works For Me!  This post is also linked to Frugal Friday.

We tithe and it has showed us so much more. We have learned the more you give, not to just church, but to others the more you are blessed.

busy mom, I completely agree! The old cliche of it is better to give than receive, is so true. It changes you!

We have a LOT of student loan debt, but we are currently tithing. My husband went back to school, which we believe was God's plan for our life.

However, after he graduated, we stopped tithing. I think there was a huge lack of trust on our part. In November we started tithing again. My relationship with God is much different now. I trust him way more than I ever did. You are right though - he'll love us NO MATTER WHAT!
