The enemy of the best is NOT the worst.

What then is the enemy of the best?  It's the mediocre or the good enough.

Think about it.  When you are all fired up about getting out of debt, pinching every penny to make that debt disappear feels so worth it.  Once you've achieved debt freedom you get to sit back and breathe.  You become relaxed.  You are no longer in debt and have more wiggle room in your budget.

You're doing just fine, definitely not going back into debt.  However, you're also not getting anywhere.  You're doing well enough and you've become comfortable.  So comfortable, that you become a bit lazy.  You are doing better than most people.  Your life is just buzzing along.  You have all you need for the here and now, and you're having fun.

Just because you are out of debt and have an emergency fund, doesn't mean the journey is over.  It's lifelong.  You need to go back to the baby steps and start saving for your retirement.  Also make sure you save for future purchases so that they don't become an emergency.

When you are in the worst, when money is so incredibly tight, pinching every penny is  necessary and you just do it.  But, once you are no longer struggling for the necessities, it's hard to ask each dollar before it leave, "Who are you and why do you think you're allowed to leave this house!"  It's easy to get lazy and not check to make sure you're getting the best bang for our buck.

Sometimes mediocrity occurs because we're struggling with being burn out.  That's okay for a time as you get your energy back. Just make sure you don't stay down.

I'm here to nudge you to strive to be the best you can be.   Kick good enough to the curb and get that fire in your belly!

I need to get fired up again. As soon as we found out hubby got a new job, we have been back to our old spending habits!
