Blanching Vegetables

My garden is giving me lots of produce now.  One of the great ways to use my produce through the winter is to blanch vegetables for the freezer.  Don't be intimidated, it's quite easy!

  1. Snap the ends of your beans and then into your desired size.
  2. Rinse the beans thoroughly
  3. Bring a pot of water to a boil
  4. Add your green beans to the boiling water, they are done when they turn a bright green color (about 1 minute)

  6. Drain your water immediately and put the beans into cold water.  You will need to drain the water a couple of times and fill with cold water again.  This stops the beans from cooking which is necessary or they become overcooked and mushy after they are put in the Ziploc bag.

  8. Put in freezer bags and Enjoy this winter.
